The Principal’s Message

Anthony Neely
Principal
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Portland Adventist Elementary School. It is my pleasure to welcome you to Portland Adventist Elementary School. As principal, I am privileged to work with outstanding educators committed to a student-centered program that promotes academic excellence in a family- oriented environment.
While academic excellence is important, it is just the beginning. Our programs offer opportunities to learn from meaningful educational experiences that promote higher-order thinking, collaboration, and problem solving; while building moral values that will guide our students through life.
Our mission is to be a light in our community and to unlock the potential of every child. I invite you to visit our beautiful campus and see the amazing things our teachers and students are doing each day.
Blessings,
Anthony Neely
Principal
Portland Adventist Elementary School
Our History
PAES was founded in 1885 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and has served the Portland area continuously since that time. In 1974 PAES was built at its present location in west Gresham on eighteen acres, nestled in a quiet neighborhood. Our campus includes a large one-story school building with a gymnasium, multiple sports fields, a school garden and a generous playground.
Our Core Values
We are just as committed to teaching academic excellence as we are to teaching character through our school’s core values.
The 5 C’s:
- Caring
- Cooperation
- Courage
- Courtesy
- Common Sense
The 5 C’s help guide our behavior as we strive to be a reflection of Christ in all that we say and do. Embraced school wide, these core values help us to create an environment throughout campus that allows students to grow in confidence and with a sense of responsibility to their community.
Students are recognized and acknowledged for modeling The 5C’s.
Our Vision
Our students are known for their reflection of Christ’s character through their commitment to service, their strong work ethic and their ability and willingness to step up and lead in a diverse and changing world.
Our teachers are committed to ensuring every student’s success through the use of innovative, engaging instruction using best practices that will meet the varying social, emotional and academic needs of today’s learner; nurturing and loving each child as demonstrated through Christ’s example.
Our school families are known for their commitment to the success of all children as well as their partnership and involvement with our learning community.
School Board
PAES is governed by a Board of Directors whose members are appointed by thirteen Seventh-day Adventist churches in the greater Portland and Gresham area. Each of these churches give financial support to the school.
Board meetings are held at PAES on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7pm. Board meetings are open to the entire school community, with the exception of executive sessions.
NOTE: If planning to attend, call the school office at 503-665-4102 to confirm meeting schedule.
